I enjoyed this discussion with Stuart Sarbacker, a professor at Oregon State University.

Like me, Stuart has recently published a book about yoga history, and he’s also a teacher and longstanding practitioner.

We talked about some of the main themes of The Truth of Yoga, and more broadly about contemporary issues.

There were also some good questions about the distinctions between yoga scholarship and practice, which yielded interesting exchanges.

The event was hosted by Grass Roots Books in Corvallis, Oregon. A brief introduction to us both, via their website:

DANIEL SIMPSON teaches at the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies, in teacher trainings around the UK, and at Triyoga in London. He is a graduate of Cambridge University and has a master's degree from SOAS University of London.

STUART RAY SARBACKER is an Associate Professor in the School of History, Philosophy, and Religion at Oregon State University. He is the author of Tracing the Path of Yoga: The History and Philosophy of Indian Mind-Body Discipline (SUNY Press, 2021) and (with Kevin Kimple) The Eight Limbs of Yoga: A Handbook for Living Yoga Philosophy (North Point Press, 2015).
