book launch - the truth of yoga (includes 7 day access to recording)
The practice of yoga keeps changing. Some of its teachings sound timeless, while others have been discarded or reinvented. As priorities shift, what preserves their connection to what went before? What defines a practice as yogic and not something different? How can we align with tradition in the twenty-first century?
Join Daniel Simpson for an interactive workshop to launch his book, The Truth of Yoga. Subtitled "A Comprehensive Guide to Yoga's History, Texts, Philosophy, and Practices," it offers an accessible overview in short, focused chapters.
Among other topics, we'll explore:
– How yoga means both union and the opposite
– Why Patanjali's system has more than eight limbs
– If we can ever be sure about the origins of practice
– Which texts and ideas seem most relevant today
– What's the simplest way of reducing suffering
One of yoga's most liberating truths is the realisation that we're not what we think. This can be easier said than perceived, so we'll look at some teachings that point beyond thought to subtler insights.
The workshop will start with a talk and a seated practice, followed by questions. Please feel free to ask Daniel anything about yoga history and philosophy. To find out more about The Truth of Yoga, visit: http://truthofyoga.com
