Yoga Beyond Postures – at 92Y (NY)

A three-week online course

Masterclass: Yoga Beyond Postures

With Daniel Simpson

Today, the word "yoga" is often used as a synonym for physical contortions.

Yet for most of its history, the practice was different. It involved sitting still and refining awareness, and its goal was to free us from suffering.

Join me for an interactive course that explores what this means in accessible ways. Over three weekly online sessions, we will examine key insights from yoga philosophy, as well as investigating how to embody them.

The course draws on my bookThe Truth of Yoga, which is a comprehensive guide to the history of practice. Our opening session will provide an introduction, and the others will focus in depth on neglected themes of traditional yoga, including some techniques of meditation and breathing.

No previous experience of yoga is needed — just an open mind and a comfortable seat.
